SEO, fifty ways to get better

(2 votes)

At a recent webmasters conference here in Alpharetta north of Atlanta, the entire evening was aimed towards Search Engine Optimization techniques, SEO tips and tools. Although the experience of the audience was mixed from people new to the webmaster world to experienced website design and SEO professionals, one thing was evident, organic SEO is now king!

Throughout the ninety minute presentation which was closer to a discussion about SEO tips, it was interesting to hear how some experts had gained that extra SEO advantage over their competitors by changing very small amounts of data in their website content.

As an exercise for our own interest as SEO consultants, we at AlpharettaSEO.com jotted down every topic, tip, trick and tool that was discussed and ended with over 50 SEO tips, topics, must haves and 'plain obvious' ideas for every Search Engine Optimization project. We know this is probably far more than the average website designer has the time or expertise to manage.

What was surprising many experienced webmasters new only the basics of the SEO services deployed by SEO professionals and used those basics only as a side item to their own projects and not necessarily for their client websites as standard practice.

So it is easy from that observation to see how SEO marketing and well defined SEO packages can really work well in today's market-place when the current level of knowledge about the subject is still rather low right in the area of the website design professionals themselves. This alone can give the average website owner much to be excited about especially if their target visitors are local to their business.

We understand there are many free SEO tools out there today and many are quite useful, but it was a noteworthy that all agreed SEO services is a specialized area and one where trends evolve almost on a monthly basis. Here are the seven main topics we thought worthy of noting.

  1. Site Content - Relative and updated content is still #1, with a focus on your keywords.
  2. Meta Data - Accurate meta data remains important
  3. Domain Names - If you do not have one yet, your decision in this area could be a deal breaker
  4. Search Engine Friendly URLs - These are high on SEO tips these days
  5. RSS Feeds - Recently gaining a lot of attention
  6. Website Loading Speed - Very little respect till now, but trends show it is important
  7. Site Maps - One of those extra steps to get in front of the competition

So just within the content of that SEO topics list, it could be easy to see how SEO tools could come in handy, Others are just plain hard work, making sure your content is SEO friendly and your keywords are prominent. A professional SEO consultant will for sure start with your content and move down a list like this, maybe not in the same order, but with the same goal to get your website higher on the organic search engine results.
